Devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma
Mary Eleanor Steen celebrated her 83rd birthday on May 2nd before peacefully being called to heaven that same day.
Born on May 2, 1942, in Whiteville, North Carolina, to Martha Carlyle and Newman Carlyle, Eleanor spent her early years in North Carolina before moving to Colorado at age 19. It was there she met the love of her life, Robert L. Steen. Together, they built a beautiful life and home in Colorado, where they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage.
Eleanor is survived by her brother Roger Carlyle [Mary Carlyle], three children: Malinda McGurk [Jim McGurk], Sheri Farmer [Greg Farmer], and Robert Steen Jr. [Tina Steen]; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a large circle of friends and extended family who adored her.
She will always be remembered for her generous heart, infectious laugh, quick wit, and legendary southern cooking. Eleanor loved nothing more than spending time with her family, doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cheering on her favorite teams—the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche.
Eleanor's warmth and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at Ahlbergs Funeral Chapel (326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501), on May 22nd at 10am; followed by a reception at the Elks Lodge.
