

Franklin ?Frank? Fangmeier of Longmont died January 30, 2007 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 62.Frank was born on January 31, 1944 in Ft. Collins to Vernon Franklin Fangmeier and Fern Agnes Buth Fangmeier. He was raised in LaPorte, CO, graduating from Cache Le Poudre High School in 1962, where he participated in football and basketball.Following high school, he joined the US Army, serving 3 years in Vietnam.He married Sara ?Sally? Young on June 2, 1968 in LaPorte, CO.Mr. Fangmeier joined IBM in 1967, enjoying 36 years working as a computer programmer. He was proud to have worked his way up through a number of positions, finishing in that capacity. As a young man he helped his father and brothers during summer vacations and weekends with his construction business, building homes in LePorte. Through this tutelage he developed a fondness for woodworking he carried throughout his life. He was an excellent woodworker and craftsman, building a number of items, especially children?s toys through the years. He was proud of the shop he had built at home and countless hours he spent there, especially since his retirement in 2003. His gardening exploits expanded each year in his yard and garden. An avid reader, he enjoyed learning, and studying, never afraid to step out and absorb new things.His twin granddaughters were a joy, one that he looked forward to spending a full day every week with. A man of his word who would help in any situation; from pulling calves to building decks, to chopping onions correctly. He was a private man, at his best one-on-one. He was an impressive man, that could put a person at ease with a wink and a smile. He made you feel safe and loved. He was affectionately known as the ?whistler.?Preceding him in death are his parents and a brother LaVerne Fangmeier.Surviving are his wife of Longmont a son Timothy Fangmeier of Broomfield, a daughter Wendy Ann Martinez and her husband Jason of Westminster, CO, two brothers, twin Fred Fangmeier and his wife Linda of Pine Bluff, Wyoming and Lyle Fangmeier and his wife Sherry of Commerce City, CO, twin granddaughters Isabelle and Olivia Martinez and a step father Martin Spiess of Berthoud and a sister in law Sharon Fangmeier of Billings, Montana, numerous nieces and nephews and two aunts.A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Crematory.Services will be held on at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2006 with Kathy Hedderman, Chaplain at Longmont United Hospital officiating.
