Fred Torres

Fred was born on February 13, 1933 to Repito Torres and Ursulita Archuleta Torres in Amalia, New Mexico. He was raised in northern New Mexico, where he worked as a rancher and farmer growing up. He married Elciria Vallejos on June 15, 1951 in Amalia. The family would move to Longmont in the later 1950’s.

Fred worked for the City of Longmont, serving in the Street Department for 25 years. He retired in 1990.

Fred was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was proud to be a member of Rio Costilla Livestock Association, serving long time families and land owners in northern New Mexico. He had many and varied interests. He played the guitar, enjoying playing with his family at home and gatherings. He was an excellent hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed working around the home making frequent repairs and improvements and was a talented gardener. He loved having his family at his home for celebrations, holidays and gatherings.

Preceding him in death are his brothers Robert and John Torrez; and a sister Rose Bustamante.

Surviving are his wife of Longmont; three daughters Frieda (Jimmie) Garcia, Sara Jacquemard of Longmont; and Rosella (Larry) Segura of Greeley; three sons Roger Torres of Amalia, New Mexico; Joe Abe (Angela) Torres of Longmont and Ruben (Debbie) Torres of Erie; brothers William (Devona) Torrez of Lafayette; and Lloyd (Marie) Torres of Thornton; sisters Mary Bustamante and Evelyn Estrada of Longmont; and Ida (Victor) Vela of Evergreen; grandchildren Crystal (Mark) Lopez, Ben Garcia, Abraham Garcia, Eric Jacquemard, Curt Segura, Bob Joseph Segura, Daniel (Jeannie) Torres, Aaron Torres, Joseph (Jessica) Torres, Jessica (Chris) Stelzer, Renee (Isaac) Torres, Ken (Regina) Arguello, Ashley (Ty) Ward and Bryson (Jessie) Hill; great grandchildren Marcus & Devin Lopez; August & Brennan Garcia; Ashlyn, Peyton & Makaylin Torres; Michael & Chloe Torres; Adrianna, Silvano, Justina & Janessa Arguello and Adelyn & Mason Ward.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 15 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Interment will follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
