Gary Anthony Puzo

Born in Binghamton, New York to Daniel (Tony) and Martha Puzo, he was the oldest of three sons Gary, Clinton, and Lane. He was preceded in death by his parents and longtime companion Maxine Richart. He is survived by 3 sons Mark (Patti), Michael (Kim), and David (Debbie) all of Longmont. 8 Grandchildren Erin (Ryan) Hay of Longmont, Tony Puzo of Louisiana, Gina (Chantel) Puzo of Colorado Springs, Bethani (Jeanine) Puzo of Longmont, Jeramy Puzo of Longmont, Emily Puzo of Longmont, Ryley Richart of Centennial, and Joe Richart of Centennial. As well as 4 great-grandchildren, Gylian Hay, Mackenzie Hay, Brody Hay and April Puzo.

Gary attended North High School in Binghamton, New York. He served 8” Cold War Era” years in the US Naval Reserve obtaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rdClass aboard the USS Osberg DE-538, and the USS Snyder DE-745, with deployments to Cuba, working in the radio/communications field.

Gary worked for Link Aviation, reporting directly to Edwin Link on special projects such as developing and field testing the FIRST remote underwater operated vehicle (ROV) “the Shark”. In 1955 Gary Joined IBM Endicott, New York as an apprentice electric truck operator, retiring 30 years later from the Boulder Plant, at age 52 as a Senior Manufacturing Mechanical Specialist/ Test Equipment Design Build Engineer. He received a US Patent for the design and construction of the Tubular Armature electric motor, the world’s fastest start, stop, reverse to speed motor of its day. Gary was also President of IBM’s Quarter Century Club. Gary had many interests. He was President in the early 70’s of the Colorado Sportsman’s Association dedicated to keeping public lands open to all for hunting and fishing. As well as doing some guiding for hunting and fishing. Gary always had an eye for pictures and served as President of the St.Vrain Photographic Society winning numerous awards and having some of his pictures published. He was a member of the Longmont Theater Guild both as an actor and set builder/stage hand. After retiring Gary took up auto racing with his beloved Austin-Healey Sprites, racing in such prestigious races as Steamboat Springs and Watkins Glen International where he finished 4th in his class. Gary and Maxine loved to travel and crisscrossed the country dragging either his race car to a track on the east coast or hooking on to his boat for a trip to Lake Powell. While living in Arizona, Gary and Max would take the motorhome and head to Mexico with friends. When Gary finally hung up the racing suit for good he began wood carving with various carving clubs and did a fair amount of teaching carving in both Colorado and Arizona until his passing. Gary loved travel and adventure and just prior to his passing took the Inside passage cruise to Alaska with family and friends including special friend Louise. Gary loved the mountains and spending time with his family and friends and telling stories. He will be missed by ALL. Rest in Peace, Pop.
