Gary Lee Swallow, 69, of Longmont passed away on June 24, 2019. Gary was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sandra (Sandi) Shelton Swallow. Gary leaves behind one daughter, Kimberly Swallow, of Longmont and one son, Travis Swallow, of Frederick. Gary is also survived by two grandchildren, Paris and Payton Swallow, of Frederick.
Gary was born on January 20th, 1950 to Harold Swallow and Vera Pratt Swallow. During his youth, Gary lived in Hygiene and later in Longmont. Gary graduated from Longmont High School in 1968. Shortly after graduating Gary enrolled in the United States Navy where he served the military for 10 years. Mr. Swallow was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He proudly served our country and considered it one of his greatest contributions. While in service Gary was trained as a welder which he later pursued as a career.
Gary married Sandi Shelton on April 14th 1973 in Medford Oregon. In 1976 they had their daughter Kimberly in January and their son Travis in December. Once Gary had a family, he decided he would finish his 10 years of service and begin his life at home with his family. In 1979 he was honorably discharged from the Navy and moved his family back to Longmont where he stayed until his passing. Gary loved to hunt and fish. If he wasn't hunting or fishing, he was dreaming about it. He spent his life enjoying Colorado's beauty and could often be found outside. Gary loved to garden until his body would no longer allow it. He had a passion for farm life and strived for self-sufficiency. Gary was known for his sense of humor and his generosity. He was always telling a joke or playing a prank. Gary was incredibly generous and helped many people who were down on their luck. He will be missed by many.
A gathering in Gary's name will occur later this summer at a local lake. All are welcome to come and cast your fishing pole in honor of Gary and his legacy. Updates will be given as to the date and location in the coming weeks.
Gary’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers he be honored by doing random acts of kindness for others.
