George Counas

On June 16,2020, at age 84, George J Counas passed away at home with his loving family at his side. George was born in Longmont CO in 1935 to John and Edith Counas. He graduated from Loveland High School in 1953. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on January 2, 1962. He married Sylvia Clark, the love of his life, on January 20, 1957. They resided first in Aurora CO, then moved to Boulder, CO. and finally settled in Longmont, CO where they lived for over 50 years. George was employed by the National Bureau of Standards, now known as NIST, from December 1959-May 1990. In 1988, he was awarded a Bronze Medal for his exceptional contributions to Microwave and Millimeter Wave Noise Metrology. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Constance Counas, sister Elaine Haakenson, brother Theodore Counas, and nephew Michael Counas. He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia, son Steve (Theresa Meija), his loving sister Vi, daughter Cindy, granddaughter Charissa (Ted Smith), Great Grandchildren Olivia, Ella and Kai Mai. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service is planned.
