George Duke Donald Roberts

The youngest of four children, he lived in the Longmont and surrounding area until his early teens. Just before turning 18, he enlisted in the Air Force. He served almost 4 years and then another 4 in the reserves. He received the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He returned to Erie with his family in the early 60’s where he remained until the late 90’s when he moved to Arkansas and then finally Washington where he lived when he passed away.

He worked as a construction worker and was a member of the Carpenters Union, Local #55. He helped build many of the skyscrapers you see in Downtown Denver, the Speer Avenue bridge, the old McNichols Arena, and was part of constructing DIA just to name a few. He also liked to buy wrecked cars and fix them up.

Duke was an avid fisherman. He spent as much time as he could out on a lake or standing in a river fishing for the “big one”. He was a Christian and was looking forward to walking through the Golden Gates into Heaven.

He was an amazing man with great strength, power, and charisma. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that would light up a room.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, his brother Charles Denver Roberts and a daughter Desiree Deanna Roberts.

He is survived by his wife Lynn, two sisters, Ann and Marjorie, his four sons, Jim, Bruce and his wife Tracy, Greg, and Tom, two daughters, Cindy and Cassi. 12 grandchildren Crystal and her husband Ian, Michael, Temisha, Katacia, Amber, Kelcie, Danielle, Christian, Joshua, Nathan, Cierra and Montanna. And 7 great grandchildren, Damian, Keauna, Nyasia, Jordan, Theron, Kyla, Christian Jr, and soon, little Gracie and little Shelby. Numerous nephews, neices, and cousins and last but not least, many many friends.

He will be loved and missed greatly.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 10 from 11 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, Longmont. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Erie, CO. A reception will follow the burial at the Lions Club in Erie, CO.
