
Jerry was born November 25, 1945 in Queens, New York, the son of Edward and Margaret (Dunn) Collins. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in math from St. John’s University, New York. He would later earn a Master’s in computer science from Syracuse University.
On September 11, 1976 he married Deborah Wood in Monterey, California.
Jerry worked for IBM for more than 31 years, retiring in 1998 as a Senior Manager of Global Services Division. In retirement, he began volunteering for Boulder County Parks ad Open Space. Through this involvement he was hired in a part-time position providing for data entry for many area, including compiling all water and ditch rights the county owned and consolidating on one site.
He was a member of Trailsweepers Ski Club and the Wiltwyck Country Club, both in Kingston, NY. The most avid of golfers he was a long time member of the IBM Hacker’s Golf League. He was active at Fox Hill Country Club in the Men’s Golf Association and Board and played in several weekly games, especially in retirement.
His wife Debbie Collins of Longmont, his son Mike Collins of Los Gatos, CA. and his daughter Kristie Collins of Brooklyn, NY, survive him. Further survivors include his brother Edward (Phyllis) Collins of Lewes, DE and his sister Bernice (Bob) Rademacher of Smithville, NJ, his cousin Helen Duborg of Hazlet, NJ, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.
A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel.
