
Glen A. McKee died peacefully at home Monday, September 12th attended by his wife Jodie and his daughter Anitra Schlieker of Mead. He was 89 years old and had been married to Jodie for 59 of those years.In addition to Mrs. Schlieker and her husband Jim and their son Brett and wife Mary of Nampa, Idaho, Mr. McKee is survived by his son Allen and wife Mae of San Francisco, by the large and loving families of brothers and sisters Seth McKee, Dee Kane, Pat McKee and Olivia Tharpe and by many good friends in Colorado and Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Jeffie McKee of Scott City, Missouri and by his sister Arnita Wilson and brothers Pete and Al McKee.Glen McKee was born in McNeil, Arkansas and spent most of his childhood on the family farm in Southeast, Missouri. Following a brief stint in California, he joined the US Navy after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served four years in the South Pacific. Returning to Missouri after the war, he married Jodie Clippard and raised his family, working as a salesman in insurance and advertising.In 1977 Glen and Jodie McKee moved to Longmont in fulfillment of a lifelong dream to live near the Rocky Mountains. For a short time Mr. McKee produced The Longmont Ledger, a weekly newspaper. He later joined the advertising sales department of The Longmont Times-Call where he worked happily for 22 years.A cheerful spirit, writer and avid explorer of the mountains, Glen McKee published a book, Colorado P try and Thoughts of Yesteryear in 1989. Traveling to bookstores and gift shops all over Colorado, he and Jodie made the book a local p try bestseller. A memorial service will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 19, 2011, with a reception to follow at the family home. Officiating at the service will be Benjamin and Nolan Jones, sons of Walt and Irma Jones, the McKee's neighbors and beloved friends for over 30 years. Jodie McKee wishes to express her special happiness that the service will be conducted by her unofficial grandchildren Ben and Nolan. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties and mailed to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
