

Harold Dean Rupert of Longmont, CO passed away peacefully on February 22nd, 2015 surrounded by family after a valiant struggle with cancer. He was 85. Dean was born in Altoona, PA to Esther & Arthur Rupert on January 15, 1930. He spent his childhood in Saltillo, PA and went to Lycoming College in PA. His first job endeavors were as a social worker, teacher, and North Central Airlines. He met the love of his life Ardell “Dell” Malthaner while they worked at Camp Sticky Stamp (Easter Seal) and married her on June 19, 1953. They raised two children, Susan Young and Mark Rupert. Their adventures continued when Dean joined the FAA (for 22 1/2 yrs) and moved throughout the United States and finally landed in Longmont, CO in 1976. Upon retirement he could not stay still and joined on with H & R Block for over 15yrs. He also volunteered at Northridge Elementary for 20 yrs in the computer lab, where he was awarded the “Channel 7 Everyday Hero” for his commitment to service. He belonged to the following organizations: Masons, Lions Club, Front Range Coin Club, Amateur Radio Club, on community board for the St. Vrain Manor, and was very involved in The United Methodist Church. They loved the outdoors, hiking, camping, fishing, traveling, family, friends, church, and music. They played a huge part in helping to raise Douglas. He built their cabin by hand and was an avid golfer. He was very active and instrumental in his grandchildren’s lives. He was able to recently meet his first great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents Esther & Arthur Rupert, his sister Joann Kauffman, and his wife Ardell Rupert. He is survived by his brother Jerry Rupert, daughter Susan Young, son Mark Rupert (Karen), daughter Leslie Dodds, grandchildren, Douglas Young, Mallory Klein (Keith), Allison Gullingsrud (Justin), Tomilyn Rupert, Dean Rupert and great grandson Bradley Alexander Klein. Viewing will be held at Howe Mortuary on Thursday February 26, 2015 from 5-8pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Heart of Longmont United Methodist Church located at 350 11th Avenue in Longmont on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10am. He will be buried in Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart of Longmont United Methodist Church.
