

Harold A. Sergeant, PhD., age 89 of Longmont passed away April 8, 2013 at Tru Community Care in Louisville. Harold was born July 30, 1923 in South Bend, Washington to Leo and Mary (Aushbacher) Sergeant. Harold had a love for education, teaching, traveling the world and enjoying his family. Harold served in the U.S. Army in World War II. Harold was the youngest son of 7 siblings. He was an avid motorcycle racer and tennis player; he graduated from Benson High School in Portland, Oregon State University and Washington State University with a PhD in Education. He resided in Lake Oswego, Oregon; Pullman, Washington; Agana, Guam; Gilbert, Arizona; Diamond Valley (St. George), Utah where he built his dream home and the last year in Longmont, Colorado. He traveled the world during his retirement years and spent many happy vacations on the Oregon coast.
Harold is survived by his son Bradley Sergeant and his wife Jennifer of Portland, Oregon and his daughter Brenda Whiteley Eddings and her husband Terry of Laverkin, Utah. In addition, one brother, Chester Sergeant of Portland, Oregon, his granddaughter Amanda Whiteley of Salt Lake City, Utah and his best friend, Margie Sprague of Longmont, Colorado, survives him. His parents, wife, son Michael, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
A reception and lunch in Harold’s honor will be hosted Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Mead Senior Center located at the Mead Town Hall, 441 3rd Street in Mead. A memorial service, with military honors will be held at a later date in Portland, Oregon.
