

Harold grew up and attended school in Menno S.D. During the 1930's Harold and some of his brothers worked in Chamberlain, SD building dams for the CCC program. A portion of their salaries were always sent home to help the family financially. He later traveled to California and worked as a laborer until he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in England and France with the Army Corp of Engineers 355th division. He had fond memories of his time in the service and loved telling the stories of seeing General Patton, General Eisenhauer and rebuilding destroyed bridges over the Rhine River. He was awarded for his excellent marksmanship. In his 90's he was able to be part of the Honor Flight Program and traveled to Washington, DC to tour the monuments and be honored as a WWII
After the war he returned to Menno SD and married Lucille Christine Schempp on December 8th, 1946. Harold loved to play baseball and socialized with many community members and patrons at Harold's Beer Garden which he owned for 19 years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter, bus driver and an involved church member in the community.
Harold and his wife Lucille, raised three children in Menno and he owned The Beer Garden where he served beer to his friends for 19 years. They moved to Longmont, CO in 1972. He worked for the City of Longmont as a building inspector for 11 years. He worked also as a cabinet maker, auto car parts delivery driver and other various jobs until he finally retired at 90. On his 100th birthday, he had many friends who helped him celebrate his birthday in December 2020, by having a car parade outside the assisted living facility where he resided.
Harold is survived by his three children, Mari-Antoine (Moses) Key of Summerville, SC, Dan Charles Wollman (Krisi) of Estes Park, CO, and Cindy Holloway of Lafayette, CO and by grandchildren Christine Holloway (Cindy) of Arlington, VA, and Jonathan Holloway (Cindy) of Lafayette, Colorado. He is also survived by his three step-grandchildren, Sean Everson, Valencia, PA, Scott Everson of Phoenix, AZ and Seth Everson of Lakewood, CO and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife of 72 years, parents, three sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services celebrating Harold's life will be held at 10 am, Thursday, Sept 2, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Katie Chullino officiating. The family will receive visitors for light refreshments before and after the service. Columbarium service will follow the service.
