

Helen Berniece Peterson, 94, of Berthoud, passed away in her sleep Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Berthoud Living Center.She was born March 22, 1915 at the family farm at Rinn, Colorado to Ross and Bertha (Haynes) Powell. Helen attended Daley School and graduated from Erie High School in 1933. She met and married Raymond L. Peterson on May 19, 1935.Soon after marrying Helen and Raymond bought Ray's Bakery in Frederick and later settled in Ft. Lupton and owned the bakery there. They created a wonderful business until Raymond's death in 1970. After she moved to Longmont in 1985 to be closer to her grandchildren she worked at Dainty Pastry.Helen loved the family's horse farm and enjoyed her beautiful garden. She loved going for drives in the mountains. She loved baking and was well known for her fabulous pies and cakes. Later on in life she dedicated her time and love to her grandchildren.Her son Russell L. Peterson of Longmont, her daughter Raylene S. Flierl of Berthoud, a grandson Kevin P. Flierl and his wife Kelsie, a granddaughter Cassandra S. Clark and her husband Bryan of Loveland and great grandchildren Emma Rose Flierl and Heath Marshall Clark both of Loveland survive Helen. Her sincere generosity and compassion will be a memory within us. All will sadly miss her quick wit and sense of humor.A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Cremation Service in Longmont.A Celebration of Helen's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont.
