Howard was born on August 5, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, to Donald and Helen Ablin.
Howard and his brother Richard grew up in the 1950s and ’60s, enjoying an active and happy childhood surrounded by family. He was involved in Boy Scouts and loved playing baseball, football, and tennis.
After high school, Howard began his studies at Colorado State University and was there for a year and a half. Eventually he graduated from Regis University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. He had a distinguished career as a computer systems programmer—spending 30 years with IBM and another 16 years as a contractor through IBM.
Howard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970.
In 1970, Howard married the love of his life, Jean, with whom he shared more than five decades of love, laughter, and partnership. The couple returned to Colorado in 1980, where they raised their two children, Cara and Brian.
Howard’s greatest joy came from his family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending every program, game, and special event possible. Brian and his wife, Carrie (Trahern), blessed Howard and Jean with three grandchildren—Travis, Derrick, and Lillyanna—who were the light of his life and whom he loved to spoil.
Outside of work and family, Howard enjoyed sports throughout his life. He especially loved golf and was a volunteer at Twin Peaks and Ute Creek Golf Courses. He played softball with friends and his son. He also participated in charitable races with his daughter. A dedicated blood donor, Howard was a member of Bonfils’ Gallon Club, always finding ways to give back to others.
Howard will be remembered as humble, hardworking, dependable, and kind. He was patient, funny, honest with everyone he knew, and faced life challenges without complaint.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Jean; his children, Cara, Brian & Carrie; his grandchildren, Travis, Derrick, and Lillyanna; his sister-in-law, Kayzy Weirich (Harry); nieces Terri Hall (Curtis) and Shelli (Ablin) Taylor; also countless family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Helen; his brother, Richard, and brother-in-law Jack.
Howard’s life was a reflection of quiet strength, integrity, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
