
Hubert W. Steinert, 93, of Longmont, CO passed away on October 3, 2013 at his home. He was born March 16, 1920 in Milberger, KS to Jonathan and Eugenie (Morgenstern) Steinert.Living through the 1935 Kansas Dust Bowl, supporting his family during WWII while his brother was in the service, he continued to make a living through the Great Depression. Hubert married Doris E. Berschauer in 1941.He owned a Mobil gas station, farmed for himself and helped his father build and remodel houses in the Russell, Kansas area. Coming from a musical family, he learned to play the base upright fiddle and joined the group The Saddle Pals. They performed at many rodeos and clubs in Kansas.In 1956, he moved his wife and two daughters to Longmont, CO. He worked for Ivan Forbes as a custom cabinet maker and later he became a private contractor building homes in Longmont and Big Elk Meadows. He continued this into his 70's.After his divorce, he found many new friends by joining numerous square dancing clubs and he loved ball room dancing. When Hubert was 89, D&S Land, LLC was formed with his daughter Cathy, her husband Don and grandson Chad and the family farm in Paradise, Kansas was once again producing crops.He said a 60 year age difference in farming experience was a great learning curve for all. He last drove his International tractor on Memorial Day, 2013.He is survived by his daughters, both living in the Longmont area, Cathy E. Diesing, her husband Don Diesing and their son Chad M. Diesing and Carol Ann Rice and her son Troy Rice. Memorial gathering from 1-3pm with memorial service at 2pm Saturday October 26, 2013 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
