He was born August 7, 1946, in Longmont, CO, to William and Frances (Brodie) Brackett. Jack grew up in Lyons, CO, and graduated from Lyons High School in 1964. In January 1966, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving a tour in Vietnam and being honorably discharged as a Marine Corps Sargent, Jack returned to Colorado in 1968, married Barbara Thieking, and settled in Longmont. Their daughter, Kristi, was born in 1972.
On July 19, 1997, Jack married Cheryl Schultz in Lyons, CO, with friends and family present. Jack was a husband, father, uncle, and a wonderful and giving friend. Being a native of Colorado, Jack loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Jack and his wife, Cheryl, enjoyed traveling, especially when meeting friends for trap shooting tournaments, ATV riding adventures, and scuba diving trips. From the time she was small, Kristi and her Dad were a "project team". Whether assembling her swing set or remodeling her home, Jack was eager to teach her to be strong and independent.
Jack worked for most of his career in bridge construction. Although he built bridges throughout the United States, one of his most challenging and proudest accomplishments was working to expand Interstate 70 to four lanes through Glenwood Canyon.
