James "Jim" Ray Moores

Jim was born on August 26, 1928, in Gunnison, Colorado, to Ray L. and Ethelyn (Logan) Moores. Jim was one of six children. Jim spent his teen years helping his Dad with the livestock and working in the hay fields. Jim started his career in 1948 in heavy construction. His first assignment sent him to Estes Park, Colorado, for the Big Thompson Water Project.

It was in Estes Park that he met the love of his life, Betty Jo Blue. On October 29, 1949, he married Betty Jo in Kremmling, Colorado. They had 58 wonderful years together. The couple made their home all across Colorado, the West, Southwest and east as far as Chicago. In 1953 they moved to Lyons, Colorado, where they spent 32 years. Jim and Betty moved to Longmont in 1985 where Jim retired.

Jim loved to hunt with his brothers, and he enjoyed fishing our Colorado streams and lakes. He was known by his family as a true “renaissance man”. A repairman was never seen in their house, he could fix or repair anything. In retirement, Jim enjoyed the many activities that the Longmont Senior Center provided. He never missed an opportunity to climb aboard the bus headed to Black Hawk once a month; and he made sure he was signed up for the monthly lunches at various restaurants. Jim also had perfect attendance at the YMCA for several years, doing his exercise and weight lifting routine.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Carol Moores of Longmont, his brother Buck Moores of Saguache, Colorado, his sister-in-law Dorothy Moores of Aurora, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews whom he adored.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Jo, his son, James Moores, sisters Juanita Moores and Sylvia Mace, and his brothers, Ted Moores and Roger Moores.

Graveside Services will be held September 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont.
