James Edward Lind

James Edward Lind, a lifelong resident of Longmont was born September 15, 1932 to John Lind and Virginia (Summy) Lind and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on June 14, 2024, he was 91 years old.

Jim grew up on several farms in the Longmont area. He attended Mead schools and then transferred to Longmont High School where he graduated in 1951. He loved sports, playing football, basketball and baseball. After graduation he enlisted into the Air Force where he served during the Korean War at Travis Air Force Base Hospital in California as a medic. While serving he married Joan Marie Lenhart on July 17, 1952. He was given an early discharge to return to help at his father’s farm in Longmont. To this marriage Jim and Joan had four children, Leann Earl, David Lind, Chad Lind and Judy Krause.

Because of a drought Jim stopped farming and went to work for Phil Skrabina’s Cement Company as a Forman. Then moved on to work for Longmont Construction, building many homes throughout Longmont. Later he opened his own cement business – Jim Lind Cement Contractors. His last job was with St. Vrain Valley School District in maintenance where he retired after twenty years. Jim built the “Press Box” at the LHS Everly Montgomery Field.

His passion was his family, loving visits from his children, grandkids and great grandkids. Also, loving to visit with all his high school buddies. Fishing was a lifelong hobby always with his two sons and old friends. Jim loved watching the Broncos and crafting jewelry with rocks. Food was also very important especially Santiago’s burritos.

Jim requested no services just a family gathering at his home that he built and has lived in since 1958. His wishes were: “Don’t weep, don’t sigh, don’t grieve, don’t sob, no sad faces, as I am now in a better place. Don’t stand around looking blue, I am now better off than you.”

Preceding Jim in death include his parents John and Virginia Lind, his brother John Lind and sister-in-law BJ Lind and grandson Zach Lind. Survivors of Jim include his loving wife Joan Lind (Lenhart), Children Leann Earl (Randy) of Longmont, CO. Dave Lind (Jan) of Sheridan WY, Chad Lind of Longmont, Judy Krause (Bill) of Yuma, CO, Grandchildren: Adam Lind (Kim) of Garden Valley, CA, Amy Graham (Brent) of Westminster, CO, Kurt Earl (Da’Nelle) of Lincoln, NE, Todd Earl (Brittany) of Lincoln, NE, Jamie Armstrong (Nate) of Yuma, CO, Kari Baucke (Nick) of Yuma, CO, Kristi Drommond (Todd) of Greeley, CO, Great Grandchildren: Violet Beckett and Torin Lind, Dylan and Liam Graham, Braylynn, Addison and Piper Armstrong, Kason and Decker Baucke, Peyton and Adam Earl, Parker, Andersen and Blake Drommond and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private gathering will be held later at his home with family and friends.

Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary of Longmont.
