
Jean Simmons Estes of Longmont died Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the HospiceCare Center in Louisville. She was 84.She was born July 27, 1928 to Irven and Myrtle (Fankell) Simmons in Longmont.She graduated from Longmont High School in 1945 and from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1949.On August 18, 1949 she married Thomas G. Estes in Longmont, he preceded her in death in 2003.She taught elementary school in Longmont. She and her husband then moved to Michigan and continued to teach school while raising three daughters. They retired in 1982 and moved back to Longmont.She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Longmont, PEO Chapter CJ, Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity, AAUW, the Friends of the Longmont Library and active at the Longmont Senior Center. She was an avid fan of the Colorado Buffal s and the Detroit Tigers. She loved reading, public speaking and knitting.Mrs. Estes is survived by one sister, Leona (Robert) Moore of Longmont; three daughters, Jill Lucas and her husband Rob of Golden; Cynthia St. John of Auburn, WA; and Jan Collyer and her husband Paul of Greenwood Village. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Mike, Beth, Ryan, Jaclyn, Jeff and Evan.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday May 11, 2013 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
