Jean grew up with and always kept with her a love of life, art, the land, her country, beautiful homes, and her family. She was born in Casper, Wyoming to the loving parents of Genevieve C. Sheffner and Walter A. Schultz. At an early age, her parents divorced and she moved to Hollywood, CA with her mother where she attended school, made many friends and acquaintances such as Our Gang celebrity Jackie Cooper, swam in the ocean and enjoyed a taste of Hollywood glamour. Her summers were spent in Wyoming with her father Walter, and on the Demorest ranch at Pathfinder, of which she had so many fond memories and developed her love of the ranch life. After her graduation from Hollywood High in 1942, she worked in an airplane factory during World War II. She remembers not only the hard times of the war, but fun and interesting things such as Frank Sinatra singing outside the barrack windows. After the war, she attended the University of Wyoming, majoring in business, and was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was a true Cowboy J fan. Jean met, fell in love with, and married John S. McFadden. They lived in Rock Springs, Wyoming, then later moved to Casper, Wyoming. Together, they had two children, Maureen Mary and Susan Genevieve. Raising her two daughters only deepened her love of life and family. Always interested and inspired, Jean dabbled in many careers throughout her life. She enjoyed ranching and raising animals, worked for the Bureau of Land Management, and was owner of the Calico Door, a gift shop in Casper. Those who knew her knew also of her wonderful homes, and the equally wonderful settings in which they were located: South Pass, Fort Washakie, and Story, Wyoming, where she retired to in 1983. Of course, retirement for Jean simply meant more time for her to dedicate herself to things she cared about, including the Story Woman's Club, as well as the Garden Club. In 2006, she moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. Finally, in 2009, she relocated to Longmont, CO, where she was blessed with many friends, visits from her beloved great grandchildren, and an overall wonderful environment at Hover Assisted Living. Throughout her life, in all places, and all phases, Jean maintained her zest for life, as well as her kindness, and generosity. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband John, and her granddaughter Stacey. She is survived by daughter Maureen (and her husband, Dan) Pedry of Longmont, CO; Susan (and her husband, Pax) Irvine of Buffalo, WY; as well as grandchildren Scott (and his wife, Sasha) Pedry of Ft. Collins, CO; Sarah (and her husband, David) Obuchowski of Longmont, CO; Jessica and Tyrell Duncan of Sheridan, WY; and her five great-grandchildren: Alma, Jensen, John Daniel, Mady, and Nathan. Mom is returning to her beloved Wyoming for burial in her family plot beside her Mom and Grandparents. The service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 701 S. Wolcott St., Casper, WY 82601.
