Jeffrey Wayne Schacht, 60, of Lyons, Colorado passed away on December 14th, 2021. Jeff was diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2021 and died following complications during treatment. Jeff was predeceased by his mother, Peggy, and father, Wayne. Jeff is survived by his daughter, Leah Schacht, his sister, Jody (Schacht) Drake, and by his many friends.
Jeff was born September 14, 1961 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Jeff’s early life was spent on farms, in mountains, and exploring the country with his parents and sister. Jeff always spoke fondly of the animals he raised and the places he visited as a child. Jeff graduated from Williamston High School in 1980.
Jeff then moved from Michigan to Colorado, where he started a family. His parents soon followed, with Peggy and Wayne building their dream home in the mountains. Upon Peggy’s sudden passing in 2010, Jeff and Leah moved to the mountain home. Jeff knew all of his neighbors and was always around to give a helping hand or plow the snow from their driveways. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, and fishing in the Rocky Mountains.
After Wayne’s passing in 2018, the home was sold and Jeff found the perfect place for himself in downtown Lyons, a modest apartment by the river at the base of the foothills. He spent his final years traveling, exploring, and learning to fly fish. He enjoyed going to local music festivals and got to know the people in his community and was a regular at many establishments in town. He started his own water delivery business named after the mountain home he loved so dearly. When Jeff was diagnosed with cancer he made it known that he did not want to live a life in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centers. He fought bravely but did not suffer long.
Jeff’s celebration of life service will be held in his neighborhood at the WeeCasa Tiny Home Resort, in March. Further details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Lyons Community Fund (lyonscf.org). The service will be outdoors so please dress accordingly for March in the Rocky Mountains and don’t worry about wearing black.
