

Jerri Lynn Modrall, age 73, died April 1, 2026. Jerri had faced many health issues over the past eight years, including lung issues, CTEPH and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a massive STEMI heart attack in 2020 and then leiomyosarcoma cancer in 2026. Jerri was born in Longmont, Colorado to Earl and Gwen Modrall and lived in Longmont and Frederick her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Modrall. She was also preceded in death by uncles and aunts, Carl and Lorraine Miller and Art and Lucy Stromquist. She is survived by her husband, Eric Doering, niece Jamie Modrall Bybee, and cousins Luke, Lorraine, Dortha, and Charlie Stromquist, sister in law, Nancy Norman, and brother in law and his wife, Tad and Mary Doering and niece and nephew, Sarah and Andrew Doering.
Jerri graduated from Longmont High School in 1970. She earned a B.A. in English/Spanish and Secondary Education, Bethany College, Lindsborg Kansas in 1974, and M.A. in Elementary Education, University of Northern Colorado in 1979. She was a dedicated Bilingual educator in the St. Vrain Valley School District 1974-2011. She loved helping her Spanish speaking students embrace their culture and heritage while learning English. She was also very active as an advocate for students and teachers through the St. Vrain Valley Education Association, as a member of the negotiations committee for 25 years, Vice President during the 1990’s, and President of SVVEA from 2004-2010. In 2011 following retirement she opened a tutoring business, Wise Owl Tutoring, working with students with Dyslexia and ADHD.
Family and friends were so important to Jerri and she loved spending time with them. She always said she was blessed with such loving and wonderful parents and her beloved brother. Jerri married Eric on July 31, 1976 at First Lutheran Church, Longmont and they made their home in Longmont. Jerri was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church and served on a variety of boards including: Bethany College Alumni Council, the Board College Board of Directors, First Lutheran committees, Eben Ezer Lutheran Home Board, Rocky Mountain ELCA, Synod Council, the Hispanic Education Foundation in Longmont, Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma. She also directed the Cherub/Joyful Noise children’s choir at First Lutheran, 1974-2018, touching the lives of over 1000 children of the church through the years. She committed her life to justice, equality, and fairness for all people.
In 2001 Jerri and Eric built a home on one of Jerri’s family farms in Frederick and became involved in Frederick community activities. She loved living on the “Knoll” looking out across the Carbon and St. Vrain Valleys and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Jerri loved mowing the yard on the riding lawn mower and tending their large garden. During her illnesses her home was her haven. Jerri enjoyed travel, golf, reading, gourmet cooking, attending Bronco and Air Force Falcon football games, and spending time with family and friends.
Jerri’s funeral service will be April 11, 2026, at 11 am, First Lutheran Church, 803 Third Avenue, Longmont. A reception will follow at the church. Visitation will be in the Fireside Room of the church from 10-11 am prior to the service. A private graveside service at Mt. View Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions to the First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund are appreciated. Ahlberg Funeral Home is providing assistance.
