
Dr. Jerry D. Schoettger of Longmont, Colorado died of natural causes at his residence on September 9, 2007. He was 69.Jerry was born on August 19, 1938 in Chadron, Nebraska to Bert Ivan and Helen E. (Usher) Schoettger. Jerry married Geraldine L. Van Buskirk on September 6, 1959 in Rushville, Nebraska. Jerry received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees while attending the University of Nebraska. After graduation from Dental College, Dr. Schoettger entered the United States Air Force in which he served as a Captain from 1962 to 1964. Upon his release, the family moved to Chadron, Nebraska where Jerry practiced general dentistry for approximately 4 years. He then entered and completed oral surgery training at the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. Having completed his training, Dr. Schoettger and family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he established his private practice of oral surgery and was a Professor in the Oral Surgery Department at the University of Nebraska for 15 years. In 1987, Dr. and Mrs. Schoettger moved to Longmont, Colorado, where in addition to Fort Morgan, Colorado, he practiced oral surgery until his death.Dr. Schoettger was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kirk Schoettger; a grandson, Michael Schoettger; a brother, Tommy Schoettger; and a sister, Billie Schoettger. He is survived by his son, Scott Schoettger and his wife Trish and their son Max (Jerry?s grandson) of Kansas City, Missouri; a daughter, Kim Schoettger of Corvallis, Oregon; his former wife, Geraldine Schoettger of Corvallis, Oregon; a brother, Bert Schoettger, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters: Bonnie McKee and her husband Mike of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Bules and her husband Mike of Oshkosh, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.Jerry was an avid reader, outdoorsman, and sportsfan. He was known for his sense of humor and consideration of family and friends. The driving force in his life was his relationship with his son, Scott, and his grandson, Max.Visitation for Dr. Schoettger will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12 at Howe Mortuary. Services will be held at Holechek Funeral Home in Oshkosh, Nebraska at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13. An additional visitation will be held at Butherus, Maser, and Love Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.on Friday September 14. Cremation will follow with interment in Lincoln.Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Longmont/Niwot Office, 6857 Paiute Ave., Niwot, CO 80503.
