JoAnn was born in Denver and grew up in unincorporated Jefferson County (now Lakewood). She graduated from Alameda High School and attended Parks Business College earning a degree in business. It was at Parks that she met Ted and did his homework. She would often joke that she thought it was just a way for Ted to spend time with her.
After she married Ted, they shared many adventures together and with their sons. They traveled through most of the western U.S., Canada, Maine, Florida, and Gulf of Mexico. JoAnn was a dedicated mom and was the team mom on multiple football and baseball teams as well as often being the official scorekeeper.
JoAnn worked at her sons’ elementary school in the library. She then moved on to roles at Ball Aerospace, the University of Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, and Jefferson County Public Libraries.
JoAnn enjoyed camping, sewing, and was an amazing seamstress. She created prom dresses for her sister and herself, Halloween costumes for the boys, and doll clothing for her nieces. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, particularly during the holidays. Everyone in the family had their favorite meals.
But above all JoAnn enjoyed just being around her sons, their wives, and especially her granddaughters. JoAnn was never as happy as doting and fussing over her granddaughters. One of her most cherished trips was to Disney World with her granddaughters, where she was fully in her element.
