

Joyce Bernice Dorn Hexum, formerly of Hendricks, MN passed away on Saturday, July 16 after a brief illness. Joyce was born May 15, 1927 to Bernice May Selleck and Victor William Dorn. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hendricks, MN. She attended New Grove School and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1944.
On June 4, 1944 she married Lowell E. Hexum in Hendricks. She worked as a secretary at SDSU Extension Service and at the Hendricks High School and was a clerk at Siverson Drug Stores in Hendricks.
Lowell and Joyce sold their farm at Hendricks and moved to Longmont, CO in 2000. They spent several years wintering in Pharr, TX where they made many friends.
She enjoyed sewing and recently finished baptism outfits for her 4 new great-grandchildren, and was working on quilts. She made dozens of porcelain dolls and sewed their clothes. She loved to cook and bake for everyone. She liked visiting with her neighbors and friends and kept in contact with many close friends in Hendricks. She so enjoyed their home and flowerbeds in Longmont and being close to her daughter Wendy and her family.
She belonged to the Legion Auxiliary for over 62 years.
She is survived by her husband Lowell, 4 children – Cheryl Rogers, Mankato, MN; Jeanne (David) Nielsen, Aurora, SD; Michael (Nona) Hexum, Fort Yates, ND and Wendy (Steve) Conder, Longmont, CO.; 10 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 10 great-step-grandchildren. One sister, Margaret (John) Widmark, Sioux Falls, SD, three sister-in-laws, Joyce Thompson and Clarice (Dale) Artz, both of Hendricks, Marlys Hexum, Sioux Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews further survive her.
Her parents, one brother, Kenneth Dorn, a daughter Wanda Johnston, and a niece Lori Widmark preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, Longmont, CO. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, Staging area A, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
