
Larry Larson passed away on August 12, 2016 in Boulder, Colorado. He was 71 years old.He was born August 1, 1945 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Melvin and Geneva (Rodgers) Larson. Growing up there he attended school and started working at the age of 13 delivering newspapers, a job he kept until he went to college. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and was an active Boy Scout. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was also a member of the Lincoln High School band and orchestra.Larry earned an associate degree while working as a part time cook, then graduated in 1967 from Moorhead State College with a degree in Industrial Technology.His first job after college was with Buick Motor Division in Flint, Michigan. Larry began a lengthy career with Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis, MN in 1968. He worked for Control Data and its subsidiaries until 1998, manufacturing computer parts at various locations in the United States and East Asia. As a managing director in 1988, Larry became engaged in building a new manufacturing facility overseas in Penang, Malaysia. The entire family moved there for two years, a time that was enjoyed by all. The family moved back to the United States in late 1990 and settled in Longmont, Colorado. While the family stayed in Longmont, Larry continued working on numerous projects as a plant manager, project manager, and construction manager, establishing new manufacturing facilities in Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. In 1999 he went to work for Mortenson Construction and worked as a superintendent, project manager, and quality control manager for the construction of telecommunication facilities and federal government buildings at military bases throughout the United States and Japan. He retired in 2013 and permanently settled in Longmont.On September 9, 2002 in Longmont he married Kazuyo Suzuki, whom he met while working in Japan.Larry was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont, Thief River Falls Northern Lodge No. 236 AF & AM, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of the Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Association.He proudly wore the insignia of General George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry, which included the number 7 outlined in military piping and cavalry swallowtail flags.Larry was an expert leather craftsman, a voracious reader specializing in the history of World War II, and an avid gun enthusiast. He enjoyed traveling and music and passed the love of both to all of his children.He is preceded in death by his father in 1968, his mother in 2013, and his son Justin in 2012.Larry is survived by his wife Kazuyo Suzuki-Larson, his sister Janice Jahr, daughters Dawn Conrardy and Debby DeBolt, son John Larson, and their families that include seven grandchildren.
