Les lived in TN until his father’s death when he was seven. He and his mother then moved to NJ where she married Edward Brown when Les was 16. After high school Les headed west to Boulder, sight unseen, to earn a BS degree in Education. He was an Elementary teacher in Boulder prior to working at Excel Energy for 30 years beginning as a meter reader and retiring as a PSCO Representative in 2003.
Although Les purchased his home in Longmont in 1977, he remained very involved in Annunciation Catholic Church of Denver throughout his life. There he shared his gifts as an organist, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and as an Adult Learning Source Volunteer for many years. He was also active at Light of Christ Ecumenical Catholic Community in Longmont, where he generously shared himself as a Greeter, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, member of the Parish Council, and all-around supporter and contributor to building and enhancing relationships in the Community and beyond.
Les was a life-long learner with a deep passion for Social Justice for all that was not tainted by a sense of retribution, but rather promoted education. He fostered and actively supported diversity in the work place and beyond. Les had a broad spectrum of interests including the Arts, Politics, Religion, Current Events, History, Movies, and Sports to name a few. His sense of community and nurturing healthy relationships was exemplified in the way he lived his life so fully and he will be remembered by his extensive family of friends for his gentle spirit, acceptance, joy, and abiding grace. He truly lived by the words, “People Don’t Care How Much You Know, Until They Know How Much You Care.”
There will be a celebration of Les’ life on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at Light of Christ Ecumenical Catholic Community 1000 W. 15th Ave., Longmont, CO, 80501. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to The Southern Poverty Law Center.
