Lisa Ann Miller passed away at her home in Superior January 22nd surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 20th, 1956 to Pat and Nancy (Dodd) Hindman at March AFB in Riverside, CA, while Pat was in the Air Force. Because both of her parents had deep roots in Colorado (Lisa was a fifth generation descendant of a Boulder County pioneer), she always considered herself a native Coloradoan, and was at heart a “country girl.”Growing up in Boulder, she became a talented skier, and developed what would be a life-long love for horses. Lisa attended Boulder High School, where she was a cheerleader, and was elected homecoming queen. During her junior year, she met her future husband (Scott Miller), and their life together would last 39 years. They were blessed with four wonderful children - Tyra Haley (Mike), Jessica, Kacey Moulton (Jesse), Kyle, and two grandchildren - Connor and Jacob Haley. These children, her husband, and family were truly the focus of her life, and what made her most proud.
Lisa graduated from the University of Colorado twice, and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She first earned a degree in Recreational Therapy, and later a nursing BSN, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors while raising four young children. She specialized in pediatric nursing, working at Boulder Community, Children’s Hospital in Denver, and Avista Hospital in Louisville, where she earned the first ever Nurse of the Year award. When she could no longer work as a nurse because of her illness, she worked in an administrative position to stay connected with theAvista community, and later she served as a volunteer, sadly having to end that too in 2011.
Scott and Lisa were married in Boulder June of 1978 after their respective graduations from CU and the Air Force Academy. They were stationed at bases in Biloxi, Mississippi and Southern California before returning to beloved Colorado for a final assignment at Lowry AFB. Prior to moving back to Boulder County, they lived in Thornton, CO for many years in a community that was perfect for raising young children and developing lasting friendships. She often would say those days were the best of her life, because she loved a simple, family-based environment.
They traveledtogether around the world. Most enjoyable though were the many vacations they took as a family to Mexico, Hawaii, Florida, California, the east coast, and several cruises. Lisa became an avid golfer, and once scored a hole in one during their 30th high school reunion at Lake Valley. She volunteered at church, schools, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Meals on Wheels, the Therapeutic Riding School, and was an honorary second mother to many of her children’s friends.
Lisa’s survivors include her devoted husband, children, grandchildren, parents, brother David, sister Susan (Horan), and several nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, Feb 3rd at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 506 Via Appia Way in Louisville.
She will be deeply missed by her family and the many, many close friends she had. Her family wishes to thank the countless “angels” that brought meals, gave rides, took her swimming, supported the family, and held her hand. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the Brain Immunology Gift Fund, Account # 222176 – University of Colorado Foundation.
