Lonnie M. Gourley

Longmont resident, Lonnie M. Gourley, 76, died Nov. 19, 2010, at his home in Longmont, CO.Lonnie McDowell Gourley was born March 10, 1934 to Arthur Gourley and Cora Crary Gourley in Guide Rock, NE. He was the youngest of 9 children. The family moved to Bostwick, NE in 1944 and Lonnie graduated from Superier High School in 1952 where he was active in sports and drama. He was inducted into the US Army on August 18, 1954 where he served as PFC for 2 years in Germany after completing basic training in Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Lonnie then returned to Superior where he worked for Ideal Market.Lonnie was married to Carolyn Johnson at the Methodist Church in Republic, KS on June 23, 1957. They purchased the grocery store in Hardy, NE where they lived for several years. Lonnie and Carolyn also resided in Superior, York, Geneva, Kearney and Lexington, NE and Longmont, CO. Lonnie worked in the retail and wholesale grocery business and later as a Real Estate Agent in the Longmont area. Lonnie and Carolyn celebrated 50 years of marriage together in 2007.He was well known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, bringing much joy to those who knew him. Lonnie was very patriotic and active at his local VFW and Elks Clubs.Lonnie was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2009, his parents, sisters Phyllis Hobelman, Jeannie Polcyn, Betty and Ione (infant sisters), and brothers Blake, Val and Dale. He is survived by one sister, Patricia Gourley Yetter of Nampa, ID, Sister-in-Law, Jo Ann Eggers of Chester, NE and Sister-In-Law Dora Gourley of Nampa, ID. Also mourning him are his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews. Lonnie will also be missed by his many friends and neighbors.An open house memorial will be held on Friday, Jan 21st from 3:00 pm to 5:00pm at the VFW in Longmont. Burial will be held in Republic, KS at a later date.Memorials may be given to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
