

Louis Richard Humphreys of Longmont passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Mesa Vista of Boulder. He was 84 years old.He was born on December 15, 1930 in Hudson, Colorado to Edward Lewis and Gertrude (Tremaine) Humphreys. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1950.Lou served in the United States Marie Corps Reserve from 1950 to 1952, when he was called to active duty. He was stationed at El Toro Marine Air Base in El Toro, California and was honorably discharged in 1954 with the rank of Sergeant.On June 3, 1951 he married Loyce Williams. Lou always said that it was one of the happiest days of his life. They made their home on a dairy farm west of Dacono from 1954 to 1957 when they moved into Longmont. Lou's worked at the Longmont Post office from 1964 to 1976, at the Berthoud Post office 1976 to 1979. He was a full time custodian at Longmont United Hospital until 1988, and remained at the hospital part time until 1999.Lou was a member of Longmont Elks Lodge 1055, serving many years as Chaplain. He was also a member of the Longmont Rescue Unit, where he was Chief from 1968 to 1975.He is remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His family was his greatest joy in life.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Loyce, 5 brothers Hugh, Robert, Richard, Howard and Jim and 3 sisters Margaret Lemen, Ruth Drashcovich, and Elizabeth Humphreys.Lou is survived by his daughter Penny Rhodes and husband Stan of Longmont, granddaughter Fallon, grandson Noah, sister Gwenn Williams and husband Don of Longmont and brother Harry of Kennewick, Washington.Graveside services will be held 2:00pm Monday, January 19, 2015 at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
