Lynn Eugene Rust

Lynn Eugene Rust, 65, formerly of Longmont, passed away June 23, 2017 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora. He was born April 1, 1952 in York, Nebraska to Dale Eugene and Wilma Jean (Wetzel) Rust. Lynn moved with his family to Longmont where he grew up and graduated from Longmont High School class of 1970. He earned a BA in Geology with a minor in Astrology from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1975.Prior to graduation, Lynn began working with the United States Department of the Interior in Boulder. Ultimately, he was employed with the Bureau of Land Management. He worked out of offices in Billings, Montana, Casper, Wyoming, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and finally in Lakewood, Colorado where he served as Deputy State Director, Energy, Lands, and Minerals. Lynn retired in February 2012.Growing up, Lynn was involved in Demolay, enjoyed mountain climbing and snow skiing, and played trombone. As an adult, Lynn was a member of Mensa International, enjoyed wine tasting, the Colorado mountains, and traveling.In September of 1987, he married Kristie Gallagher in Estes Park, Colorado. They honeymooned in Hawaii.Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Wilma, and wife, Kristie.Lynn is survived by two sisters, Lori Hallauer (Ron) of Lincoln, Nebraska and Lisa Schweger (Roger) of Westminster, Colorado as well as two nephews, Ryan Hallauer and David Schweger and one niece, Katie Schweger.Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, Colorado. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
