Marie Fitzgerald Drummond

Marie Fitzgerald Drummond, of Longmont, died August 14, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center in Louisville from a rare and aggressive cancer; her family was by her side. She was 51 years old.Marie was born on October 19, 1959 in Mount Kisco, New York, the daughter of Thomas and Fay Coursen Fitzgerald. She graduated from St Paul High School in 1977, California. She continued her education and received her undergraduate and Masters Degree from University of Northern Colorado. Marie moved to Longmont in 1981.She married Frank Drummond on July 28, 1984 in Longmont. Marie was a teacher in the St. Vrain Valley School District for 30 years, teaching the last 10 years at Silver Creek High School. She was a dedicated public education teacher and mentor who dedicated herself to students with unique needs.Marie was an active member of LifeBridge Christian Church where she was involved in LifeSports and organized the volleyball team. She was also instrumental in organizing the Unified softball teams for children and adults in Special Olympics in its founding years. During her free time she enjoyed photography, traveling, and outdoor adventure classes with friends. Many will miss Marie's infectious laugh. She made the world a better place during her short life and touched many through her actions. She was preceded in death by her father.Marie is survived by her loving husband and rock, Frank Drummond of Longmont; her beloved sons Michael Joseph Drummond; Donald Franklin Drummond, Timothy Ryan Drummond and Daniel Thomas Drummond; her mother, Fay Fitzgerald of San Diego, CA; her brother, Tom Fitzgerald of South Port, Connecticut; three sisters, Joan Fitzgerald of San Diego, Ann Fitzgerald of San Diego and Celia Johnston of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and three grandchildren Kayla, Scarlett and Madisyn.A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM on Monday, August 29, 2011 at LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Highway 66 in Longmont. Cremation has taken place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marie Drummond Fund at the St. Vrain Valley Credit Union in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
