
Marie Christine von Lilienfeld Watts died February 9, 2008 at Frasier Meadows in Boulder. She was 89.Christine was born January 6, 1919, in Riga, Latvia, to Charles Eastlake von Lilienfeld and Baroness Olga Marie Pilar von Pilchau. In 1919, the family moved to Germany fleeing the Russian revolution in the Baltic States. After tutoring at home, Christine went to European boarding schools in Munich and Lindau on Lake Constance. During World War II she worked as a secretary in Germany and Poland. She fled to the English Zone as the Russians approached.In 1954, Christine immigrated to the United States and came to Boulder. She married James M. Watts on July 7, 1960 in Redlands, California. Her husband served with the Bureau of Standards for many years.Christine and James loved music and she worked for the Boulder Philharmonic from its beginning. She served on the Colorado Music Festival Board as well as the Memorial Hospital Board. She worked for many years for the Conference on World Affairs.She is survived by her sister, Baroness Carlota von Munchhausen of Mallorca, Spain; a nephew, Baron Hans J. von Malsen-Waldkirch of Munich; and many friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; brothers, Theo, Fred, and Nicolas von Lilienfeld; and her sister, Nina Haynes.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 in the Sky Room at Frasier Meadows Manor, 350 Ponca Place, Boulder.
