

Marvin F Barnes Jr. was born July 21, 1930 to Marvin F Barnes Sr. and Sylvia Isabelle Barnes (Thomas) in Winfield Kansas, passed peacefully into eternity in his sleep on October 6, 2016 at Pathways Hospice in Loveland, Colorado. Marvin was preceded by his parents and loving wife Ila Jean (Stewart). He is survived by his son Andrew, and daughter-in-law Silvia, Grandchildren; Alex, Jose, Karen, Crystal, and Amanda, Great Grandchildren; Gabry, Alic, Aden, and Serena, as well as many friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
Marvin attended Wichita State University, served as a Photographers Mate while stationed at Washington DC in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Navy, he met his future wife while working at the Wichita Eagle Beacon as a photographer, writer and columnist and married her on December 31, 1961. Later, Marvin worked at several other newspapers as an editor, writer, and photographer. In 1980, Marvin left the newspaper business and became an assistant manager at the TG&Y in Great Bend KS. In 1983, he was transferred to the Longmont TG&Y and moved his family to be with him. Marvin retired in 1995 and devoted his time to being a devoted grandfather and Colorado Avalanche fan.
Marvin’s lifelong passions included Serving God, and his church, his family, reading, walking, history, writing, collecting antiques and coins, photography, astronomy, and following national and statewide politics. Marvin touched the lives of all he knew; he was a kind and generous man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
