April 26, 1932 – August 10, 2022
Mary was born on April 26, 1932 in Delta, CO to Mauricio and Orcelia Segura. She was the eldest of 9 children, 5 sisters and 3 brothers. Mary had an early grade school education and left school at a young age to help her family work on the farm and help care for her siblings.
She resided in Rocky Ford, CO and spent her young adult life in Pueblo, CO where she married and gave birth to 2 daughters, Emma and Geraldine. After living and working as a single mother for years she was introduced to the love of her life Ramon Apodaca. They married in 1964 and had their 3rd daughter Anita. Her family later put down roots in Denver where they continued to raise their family. Mary and her husband Ray moved to Longmont and helped care for their grandchildren in 2001 but later moved back to Denver.
Mary worked in the hospitality industry as a server and cook and later sought out training in the medical field where she worked as a nursing assistant in Denver, CO. She was driven and determined to educate herself and proved to be a quick learner. She later worked in social services as an interpreter and assisted immigrants with benefits, job searches and housing. It didn’t matter what job Mary was in she spread kindness and shared the love of Jesus to everyone she had the opportunity of knowing.
Mary attended Life Bridge Christian Church while living in Longmont and was a member of Landmark Tabernacle when she resided in Denver.
In her spare time Mary loved cooking, especially comfort foods and Mexican cuisine. She even won awards for her green chili recipe! She also loved dancing, crocheting, thrift shopping and most of all reading her bible and praying for others.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ramon Apodaca, grandson Nathan LaVante, sisters, Helen Lucero, Virginia Valdez, Bertha Trujillo, Anna Valdez and Patsy Balles, brothers, Adolf Segura and Leroy Segura.
She is survived by her daughters Emma Romero- husband Joseph Romero of Denver, Geraldine Romero of Denver, Anita Gray- husband Murrel of Longmont, brother Ruben Segura of Pueblo, grandchildren Nicole Garcia- husband Cesar Garcia of Denver, Barbara Tacoronte of Denver, Joseph Romero III - wife Monica of Highlands Ranch, Lynette Tacoronte of Denver, Tiffany Jones- husband Ryan of Longmont, Alysa Dudrey- husband Conner of Longmont and Natalie Gray- fiancé Jamal Mangelsen all from Longmont, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Mary Apodaca, at the LifeBridge Christian Church 10345 Ute Hwy, Longmont, Co 80504 on August 23, 2022 at 1:30pm.
