

away peacefully at age 84 on February 4, 2021. She was born in Boulder, Colorado July 1936 to Jim and
Nellie Melvin and was the first born of seven children. Mary met her future husband, Jim Brown, while
attending high school in Louisville and later married Jim in September 1956.
Mary graduated from college in 1976 and taught elementary for over 25 years at Centennial Elementary
School in Loveland, Colorado. On holidays and summer breaks from school, Jim and Mary would enjoy
traveling the country in their RV. Many times, taking their grandkids along with them as they visited
Vancouver, Mt. Rushmore, and the Grand Canyon. They enjoyed riding old steam trains and exploring
historical/interesting stops along the way. The family continues to hold these memories close to their
hearts.
Mary loved to garden, do jigsaw puzzles, collect porcelain owls, travel, and feed the birds, squirrels, and
racoons in her backyard. She also loved all of her students and got a kick out of teaching the second
generations of her previous students.
Mary is survived by her brother Ray Melvin, sister Millie Suddath; son Peter Brown, grandchildren Carrie
Giauque and Peter (PJ) Brown, plus 5 great grandchildren. Mary was proceeded in death by husband
Jim, son Jeff, grandson James, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
