He grew up in Bellerose, NY and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Army that same year under a special enlistment for 17 year olds: 6-months active duty and 7 and a half years reserve. He also met Irene that year, starting a 62-year love affair. They were married on August 27, 1960 and had 4 sons.
He worked for New York Telephone, transferring to Mountain Bell. The family moved to Longmont, Colorado in August of 1973. Matt retired in December of 1993 from AT&T. In June of 1994, Matt and Irene moved to Allenspark, returning to Longmont after 6 years due to health concerns.
Bowling was Matt’s passion and he bowled on multiple leagues for many years, and achieved a perfect 300 game. He also had enjoyed fishing, reading, listening to music, playing his guitar and singing. He sang in the Allenspark Community Church choir for quite a few years and sang and played his guitar during some church services. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and his team won the city championship in 1987.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Catherine Seewaldt of East Williston, NY, and his 19-year old son, Michael, in 1982. He is survived by his wife, Irene, and his 3 sons: Daniel, wife Stephanie, children Abigail and Adam of Fort Collins, Brian of Longmont, and Matthew, wife Angela, and daughter Madison of Parrish, Florida and his beloved sister-in-law, Eleanor French, of Lindenhurst, NY and several nieces and nephews.
