Murray Russell Powell,

Dr. Murray R. Powell, DDS, age 79 passed away at his home of pancreatic cancer. He was born in Butte, MT and married Joann Marley of Bozeman, MT on February 14, 1953. He is survived by his six children, Teresa Blackwood, Dickinson, ND; Lori (James) Bendickson, Rock Hill, SC; Michelle (David) Redabaugh, Haymarket, VA; Mike (Joanie) Powell, Longmont, CO; Bill (Elaine) Powell, Bayfield, CO and Mary (Donald) Vigil, Delta, CO. He is survived by 12 grandchildren Brian (Lissa), Kori (Cody) and Kristi Jo Blackwood; Aubrae and Jonas Bendickson; Jeffrey, Nathan, Matthew and Dori Jo Redabaugh; Tessa Powell, Michael (Deborah) and Stephen Vigil, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.He graduated from Montana State University in 1957 and from Loyola University College of Dental Surgery in Chicago, IL in 1961. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army at Fort Carson, CO and later relocated to Longmont in 1964 where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1995. Upon retirement he enjoyed raising Gelbvieh cattle and grass hay at his ranch north of Longmont. He was preceded in death by his wife Joann, his parents Russell (Bud) and Teresa Ann (Tess) Powell.Memorial contributions may be made to the Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, Our Center, Hospice of Boulder/Broomfield or charity of your choice.A rosary service will be held at 5:00 on Tuesday, January 26 followed by visitation with the family and sharing of his life at 6:00 at Light of Christ Church in Longmont. A celebration of his life and Mass will take place at Light of Christ Church at 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 27 with a light supper following immediately after.
