I was born to Clarence and Gladys Swaeby of Hammond Indiana. My sister, Nancy Harr, currently resides in Omaha Nebraska, and my brother, Jim Swaeby (now deceased), was located in Longmont with his wife Susan Geer Swaeby.
In 1945 our family moved to a large ranch south of Avondale, and four years later, to a dairy farm located on the southeast corner of Highway 287 and Arapahoe Road in Boulder County. Farm and ranch life was ideal for a boy.
In 1958 I married my high school sweetheart, Kay Conley, and we have been together for over fifty-nine years. She has always been the wind beneath my wings.
We have two sons - Steve of Lafayette (wife Jeanne), and Robert of Canandaigua, New York. They have been my pride and joy, and also caused a few gray hairs over the years. If you lived through raising teenagers you can relate.
In 1961, I opened an automobile radiator repair shop in Sidney, Nebraska. Six years later I joined Sears Roebuck and served as the manager of a catalog/appliance store in Sterling, Colorado. I was subsequently promoted as District Sales Manager in Kansas City, Missouri overseeing fourteen stores. In 1971, I took a job as National Sales Manager for a construction equipment company in Honeoye, New York, and five years later returned to Boulder and worked as General Sales Manager for a machinery company in Commerce City. My wife and I then purchased the Boulder Map Gallery and Map Express located in Lakewood. We sold both businesses eight years later and set off to travel with our dear friends Richard and Cleta Glenn of Dallas Texas.
My family strongly believes in giving back to the community which I have tried to do. I have been the President of Jaycees; Soap Box Derby Director and a volunteer fireman. I have assisted with Food Share and the Salvation Army as a bell ringer. It was an honor to serve on the Board of Directors for Hospice, and was elected to the Board of the Left Hand Water District where I served ten years, and marshalled for eight years at Sunset Golf Course located in Longmont.
""Life is not a spectator sport""
For fun in my early life, I became a licensed livestock auctioneer, competed in the Colorado Six Shooters fast draw contests, and had roles in two community play productions - as leading man in one. (I'm still waiting for Hollywood to call fifty years later.) In Longmont, I completed the Citizens' Police Academy, and read about 100 books annually.
Here my story ends. To my large clan - comfort one another. My friends - support one another, and my golf buddies - FORE! At my request no services will be held. My ashes are at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery in the new columbarium. A life fully lived.
Adios, Ned
