Patrick "Pat" Lloyd Wherry

Pat was born May 28, 1951, in Longmont to Harry L. Wherry M.D. and Elda Mae Strahm Wherry. Growing up in Colorado, Pat developed a love of adventure and the outdoors at a young age. He summited Longs Peak at the age of 12 and was actively in scouting, eventually attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder in 1969.

Pat, like his father, took an early interest in medicine. He received his bachelors degree in biology from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. Pat served his medical residency at Creighton University Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

In 1982, Pat returned to Longmont to practice medicine with his father, forming Wherry and Wherry Family Practice. A devoted professional, he took a keen interest in each and every patient. Pat truly made a difference in the lives of his patients.

He married Janice Fraley Miller June 1, 1991, at Peaceful Valley in Allenspark, Colorado. His family was of great importance to him.

Pat was an active member of Lifebridge Christian Church. He was on the church’s Medical Missions Team, serving on a many trips to Thailand, China and the Navajo Nation and was an instructor with the Marriage and Family Ministries. In addition, he was a member of the Wilderness Medical Society. As a life long skier, Pat served on the Loveland Ski Patrol. He also loved to scuba dive. His passion for travel and learning is demonstrated in the over 20 trips he took to countries around the world, both for pleasure and in the service of humankind.

Proceeding him in death was his father.

He is survived by his wife of Longmont; his mother of Longmont; a son Sean (Trina) Wherry of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters Bregan Wherry of Chicago and Shannon Wherry of Minneapolis, Minnesota; step children Nick (Tobe) Miller of Longmont; Elizabeth (Craig) Olsen of Houston, Texas; Asher (Kate) Miller of Frederick; sister Suzanne Roen of Redmond, Washington; brother Michael Wherry of Colorado Springs. He is further survived by six grandchildren; Fergie Wherry, Josie Platt, Austin Miller, and Pierce, Grace, and Xavier Olsen. *

A cremation has been entrusted to the Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.

Services will be held at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Lifebridge Christian Church.
