

Paul Meze of Thornton, formerly of Longmont, died May 2, 2014 at the Villas at Sunny Acres. He was 87. He was born March 19, 1927 in Royalton, Illinois to Leon Pierre and Marie Louise (Deydie) Meze. The family moved to Longmont and Paul graduated with the highest honors from Longmont High School in 1945 where he’d been active in DeMolay.
Showing an early interest in the fire prevention, he went on to attend college and receive a degree in Fire Science Technology, graduating with a 4.0 grade average. From 1951 to 1973 Paul was with the Longmont Fire Department, retiring as a Captain. He worked for the department when Longmont had only the one fire station at 4th Avenue and Coffman Street. He joined Howe Mortuary in 1973, working more than full time until his retirement in 1991. He will fondly be remember for his care, concern, compassion and professionalism.
Paul had been an active Mason, joining the St. Vrain Lodge #23 AF & AM in 1949. He served as Worshipful Master of the Lodge until 1977 and was appointed the District Lecturer for the Northern District in 1988. In 1999 Paul received his 50 year pin from the St. Vrain Lodge, #23. He had also belonged to the Colorado Consistory #1, Denver, and the El Jebel Shriners where he volunteered many hours at the Children’s Hospital. He was also the past President of the Longmont Lions Club, holding that position in 1987. Paul was a member of Eastern Star, Columbine Chapter, #11 serving as Past Patron 3 separate times where he was active with state and district responsibilities.
On September 19, 1986 Paul married Patricia Ann Weimer Holcomb in Louisville, CO. In 1993 Paul and Pat moved to Arizona and then back to Colorado in 1997. Paul always enjoyed traveling, especially road trips. He spent countless hours enjoying time spent with his family.
Survivors include his wife Pat of Thornton, his son Tom (Christie) Holcomb of Brighton and his daughters Vickie (Steve) Crook of Helena, Montana and Linda (Bob) Quinn of Brighton, CO. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Leon Meze, Jr, his sister Leona Fabrizio and his Grandson Justin Case.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 7 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1721 Red Cloud Road, Longmont, CO 80501. Burial will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
