Pi Yu was born on October 8th, 1949, in Taichung, Taiwan where she lived with her family until she moved to the United States in the 1970’s and Colorado in the 1990’s.
While living in Taiwan, she balanced the demanding responsibilities of working to support her brothers and sisters alongside her studies, continuing her education through high school. It was there she married her first husband, James, and together they welcomed two children. Later, after moving to Alabama, she married her second husband, Stan, and they shared the joy of raising one child together
Over her working career she maintained a Chinese Restaurant, real estate, being a landlord, stock market investor as well as a homemaker.
When Pi wasn’t busy working or lovingly caring for her family, she delighted in a colorful array of passions. She found joy in dancing to lively music, exploring new places through travel, and immersing herself in the excitement of video games. Her adventurous spirit also led her to the thrill of casinos and dog tracks, where the energy was always buzzing. Pi cherished fun evenings singing Chinese karaoke and indulging in sumptuous buffets filled with crab legs and succulent shrimp. While she held a gentle belief in Buddhism, she preferred a more personal, quiet connection rather than attending church or practicing organized religion.
As a parent, she was known for her deep love and unwavering care, though at times she could be firm and direct when guidance was needed. While her honesty and strong opinions occasionally came through, she continued to support her children when they needed it.
Many saw her as a vibrant soul—ambitious and kind-hearted, brimming with energy and passion. She was refreshingly outspoken and wonderfully headstrong, embracing her love for taking charge. Above all, she held a deep, unwavering care for everyone she loved, pouring her heart into those connections.
Pi was a beautiful energetic soul. She didn’t take any B.S from anyone. She loved her children and grandchildren. She will be free now to continue her journey as her soul is free from this vessel.
Pi Yu is preceded in death by her parents, and her first husband James Shepherd.
She is survived by her husband Stan Dajnak, children Leona Shepherd and her husband Peter Adolfsson, Lee Shepherd, Michelle Fisch, grandchildren, Indigo Nelson, Nicholas Shepherd, Hope Shepherd, and friends Yutze Hendrix, Maggie Glass.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any support be sent their way to help honor Pi.
