As a child he loved to race motocross and repair anything mechanical. He learned woodworking from his father. He graduated from Penfield High School in 1980 and then earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University in 1984 at which time he moved to Colorado. His careers included engineer, snowboard instructor, psychotherapist (after attending Naropa University) and finally Master Electrician and owner of his company, Enlighten Electric.
Randy was an open-hearted and kind soul. He was devoted to Buddhism. He loved astronomy, archery, mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, and rock climbing. Above all, he adored his children. They were the light and love of his life. He shared a passion for aviation with his son and they spent countless hours operating remote control airplanes and trucks. He taught his daughter to play guitar and they enjoyed building doll furniture together.
His loved ones will remember his quiet presence, his generosity of spirit and the many beautiful nights under the stars gazing at distant galaxies through telescopes skillfully crafted by Randy.
He is survived by his children Chloe Laird and Rowan Laird of Boulder, Colorado; his parents Wayne Laird and Mary Jane Parks Laird of Bloomfield, New York; his brother Keith Laird and sister-in-law Robin Laird of Canandaigua, New York; and his partner, Karyn Young of Boulder, Colorado.
A memorial is being planned for the spring. Check Randy's Facebook page for details: www.facebook.com/randy.laird.14
