

Ray Heil passed away peacefully June 1, 2012. He was born January 22, 1928 to Peter and Katherine Heil in Sedgwick Colorado. He grew up on the family farm, moved to Longmont in 1941 and graduated from Longmont High School in 1946. He married Marian Spomer on December 18, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church.
After leaving farming in 1952, Ray’s professional career included owning and operating several commercial properties most notably Longmont Home Improvement. He was a building contractor, land developer and an active member of Longmont Builders Association where he served as President and other offices. He promoted restoration of landmarks in Longmont including St. Stephen’s Church.
His interests included playing the harmonica, gardening, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed dancing and music, especially country western.
Ray kept life’s challenges in perspective and most importantly was true to himself. He was a major stabilizing force with a wealth of wisdom and compassion for family and many others. He will be remembered for his honesty and integrity. He suffered from many health issues including Parkinson’s disease, which he courageously battled.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Edward, Robert and Richard) and two sisters (Esther and Florence). Ray is survived by his wife Marian, his sons Stephen (Grace) and Gary (Jane) along with four grandchildren: Brent, Krista, Leah and Zachary. Surviving siblings are Helen Klein and Don (Glenda) Heil. Further survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Service.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church.
