Raymond Tella, formerly of Ashaway, RI, passed away on Aug 7th in Longmont, Colorado where he recently moved with his wife to be near their family.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen M. (Livingstone) Tella and their children Marlene Murphy (Robert) of Louisville, CO and Richard Tella (Cathleen) of Sunnyvale, CA. He is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Born in Providence, RI on April 4, 1921, he was the son of Frank P. and Mary (Storti) Tella and brother of Robert and Edwin, who preceded him in death.
A veteran of WWII, Raymond served in the US Army Airways Communication Squadron in the China-Burma Theatre specializing in radio transmitting and receiving. Radio communication, specifically Morse Code relay, remained a lifelong hobby.
Raymond was a graduate of Central High School in Providence and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1953.
During his career, Raymond worked for Lockheed (CA), General Electric, and Sperry Univac in New York. In 1962 he joined the Electrical/Electronics Engineering Division under the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, US Navy in Groton, CT until he retired in 1985.
When he retired, Raymond enjoyed caring for his home in Ashaway, visiting his children and grandchildren, and feeding wild birds who could always count on him to have fresh seed and water.
A private family gathering in celebration of his life was held in Colorado on Aug 10th.
