

Dick Raymond Hinshaw was born on January 28, 1931 in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Thomas and Anna (Anderson) Hinshaw. Dick was led to the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ by Billy Graham at a crusade in Denver, Colorado. Dick was a faithful member of the River Church in Lyons, Colorado. He was active in small home group bible studies and also dedicated to his men’s bible study groups.
His personal time was spent camping, fishing, hiking and in the political arena.
Dick attended Boulder High School, graduating in 1948 at the age of 17 at which time he enlisted in the Army. Dick served his country honorably in the Korean War stationed in Japan with the 11th Airborne Division of paratroopers until 1952. Dick attended the University of Colorado, Boulder on the GI Bill, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was then employed by Hewlett-Packer.
Dick was married to Juanita Taylor in Tennessee in 1952. They had 3 children: Suzanne, James and Phil. In 1960, the couple was divorced. His youngest son Phil, died in 1980 at the age of 23.
In 1977, Dick became the owner/manager of the Cook’s Court Cottages located across from the Lyons City Hall. He was elected trustee to the Town Board for three years. In 2000 Dick was elected as Mayor of Lyons. He served two terms at which time both water and electrical facilities were upgraded for the city’s future subdivision developments: Meadow Park developed into a white-water kayaking park, a Senior Housing Facility was being constructed and numerous other accomplishments achieved.
On October 2, 2004 Dick married long-time friend Connie Sorensen of Frederick, Colorado at the River Church. The couple resided both in Lyons and Frederick until 2006 when Dick retired and sold the cottages.
Throughout his life, Dick supported native pastors and missionaries in India because of his passionate belief in the Gospel of Jesus Chris and salvation only through His Name.
Dick Hinshaw died on Monday, January 8th at his home in Frederick, Colorado. He had reached the age of 92.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie Hinshaw; daughter Suzanne Miller; son James Hinshaw; step-daughters Heather Garr, Heidi Rashleigh, and Alicia Sorensen; 6 grandchildren Christine Morales, Karin Exum, Holly Hinshaw, A.J. Hinshaw, Michah Hinshaw, ChristaNoel Hinshaw, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Anna Hinshaw, sister Betty Hinshaw Girard, son Phil Hinshaw, brother Jerry (Nita) Hinshaw, and other close family members.
The viewing, memorial service, and reception will be held on January 16th, at The River Church located at 18668 N. St. Vrain Drive, Lyons, Colorado. Interment will be at Lyons Cemetery.
The viewing will be from 9:15-9:45am, memorial service begins at 10:00am with the reception immediately to follow.
