We are sad to announce the passing of Richard Merriman, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of Longmont, Colorado, who died at age 81 on May 13, 2023. Richard passed away surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with terminal brain cancer. He was born on March 12, 1942, in Madison, Wisconsin. His father, Elmer, was a Security Guard, and his mother, Jean, was a nurse. Richard spent the majority of his life in Colorado, and attended Sheridan High School prior to enlisting in the Navy. He met his first wife, Maria Cristina Gomez, in California, and then moved with her and their first daughter, JoAnn to Colorado. Their second daughter, Kathy, was born a couple of years later, and the family settled down into their first house in Lakewood, CO. Richard tried his hand at machinery sales and eventually opened his own business where he bought and sold used machinery. The family moved to Littleton, CO in 1975, and remained there for the next 20 years. After his first wife passed away in 1991, Richard moved around a little bit, and ultimately settled in Longmont, CO, and moved his business, “Richard’s Machinery” to a warehouse in Mead, CO. It was while he was in Longmont that he met his 2nd wife, Nancy Stafford, and made a life with her for the remainder of his years. Richard and Nancy enjoyed Northern Colorado and spent many of their days visiting antique shops, caring for their cats, spending time with friends and visiting family in various parts of the country, including local family around Denver.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Nancy, daughters Kathy and JoAnn, Grandkids Cole, Jake, Cristina, Juliana and Carli, and Great-granddaughter Harper Kate.
A short graveside ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023 at Fort Logan Cemetery in Englewood where close family members will be invited to attend.
