

Richard Alan Reininger, age 80, of Berthoud, Colorado passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023. He was born on October 14, 1942 at the home of his Grandmother Feerer’s outside of Logan, New Mexico to Leo Ray Reininger and Dorothy May (Feerer) Reininger. He had two sisters at his birth, Reva Jean and Maribel Jeanette. At 10 days old, the family moved to Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, his parents gave him another sister, Patrecia Lee. After farming for 8 years, his parents decided they were done farming and moved to Denver, Colorado in 1950. His father started buying and remodeling houses and renting them out. Richard would help him when not in school. He graduated from West High School in 1961.
On May 6, 1961 Richard married Janet Shirley Anderson. On May 29, 1961 he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Minot, North Dakota and became a jet mechanic. While in Minot, he and Janet had two sons, Scott Edward and Todd Alan. He was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado from May 1965 to October 1966. While in Colorado Springs he and Janet had a daughter, Dorothy Lorraine.
During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Thailand from October 1966 to October 1967. Richard loved his time in Thailand, he loved the culture, the food and mostly the people! When he returned to the U.S., he was stationed in San Bernardino, California, until he was Honorably Discharged in November 1969.
After the Air Force, Richard went to work at Caterpillar Tractor and retired in November 1999. He spent many weekends during the summer camping and during the winter skiing with his family. His family time was very important to him.
Richard was a Grandfather to Thomas Michael Kapaun II, Michelle Nicole Gonzales, Amber Lynn Reininger-Hilzer, Daniel Alan Kapaun and Joshua Scott Reininger. He was a Great-grandfather to Addison Rose Kapaun, Charlotte Grace Kapaun, Lily Michelle Gonzales, Leo Joshua Reininger-Hilzer, Waylon James Gonzales, Hailyn Harriette Reininger-Hilzer, Violet Belle Arguello and Daisy Elora Arguello.
He is preceded in death by his father Leo Ray Reininger, his son, Scott, his grandson Joshua, his sister Maribel Dostie and his mother, Dorothy May Reininger.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. Following the a celebration of life will be a reception at 12:00 PM at Howe Mortuary Reception Room, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501.
