

Ric was born on March 17, 1952 in Port Hueneme, California to Robert Lee Nelson and Maureen McLure. The family moved, while Mr. Nelson pursued a Naval career, landing in Nebraska. Ric graduated from Superior High School, Superior, Nebraska. He married Kathy Peterson on June 16, 1979 in Sterling, Colorado.
A talented heavy equipment operator, he worked for Spaur Brother Farms, Johnstown for the past six and a half years. A dedicated employee he was responsible for any of number of jobs for the organic dairy farm; driving all trucks, heavy equipment and vehicles. He moved to Longmont from Lafayette in 2003, when he and his wife bought their own home. He was a certified Harley-Davidson mechanic, especially enjoying working on his Harley.
Ric enjoyed fishing, gardening, and many years of slow pitch softball in the past.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother Larry Nelson and brothers in law Steven Peterson and Forrest Peterson and sister in law Jackie Peterson.
Surviving are his wife of Longmont; a brother Kenneth Nelson of Ft. Collins; a sister Cathy Nelson of Lafayette; nieces and nephews: Chris, Jenny, Brayden, Austin, Rylyn Nelson of Sterling, CO; Corey, Angie, Cade, Colby, Connor Nelson of Sterling, CO; Meleesa, Christian, Kaybree Genereau of Sterling, CO; Jason Peterson, Cleveland, OH; Bill Peterson, Bill, Lisa and Justin and their families of Cleveland, OH; Richard Peterson and his family of Cleveland, OH; Glorine, Lance, Mathias, Lila Vlach of Cleveland, OH; Robert Prunty and family, Teri Perry and family, Christin Perry and family all of Cleveland, OH; Pam, Nicole, Brandon, Jenifer, Kenny, Crystal, Vincent, Stormy, Shawna Coffin and their families of Creighton, NE; Deb Webb, Matthew and Jessica Harbourt, Dainy and Katrina Muerdler, Candice Papke all of Casper, Wyoming; Chuck, Cody and MacKenzie Harbourt of North Loup, NE; Nathan, Jill and Ashlynn Harbourt of Hay Springs, NE; Sheila, Aaron and Dakota Hewitt of Merino, CO; Andrew and Heather Helvie of Great Bend, KS; Larina and Dan Zimmerman, Brandon Braman of Longmont, CO; Monica, Eduardo, Natalya, Nikolai and Elaina Macias of Loveland, CO; Tim, Candy and Paytin Peterson of Akron, CO; Lane Peterson, serving in the US Army; Kayla, Blake, Kaydence, Bryson and Rylie Headden of Otis, CO and Jamie, Damian, Anthony, Rachelle, Ryleigh, Gage, Taylor Martinez of Pueblo, CO. and all the others who loved him like an uncle.
Services will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, July 5, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. A pot luck luncheon will be held in the Howe Mortuary Event Room following the services. Please bring a dish, if you wish.
