Clark was born March 8, 1941, to Dale and Gertrude Beavers (Clark) in Crete, Nebraska. He grew up with his sister, Dorothy, in Edgar, Nebraska, where he graduated as valedictorian from Edgar High School in 1959.
When he was 18, he began dating Mary McGhie, also of Edgar. They married in 1960 in Mankato, Kansas, and spent 62 years together. Clark earned a Bachelor's Degree from Hastings College, where he played football. Clark and Mary moved to Colorado in March 1966 with their young daughters, and it was in Longmont where their two sons were born and they raised their family.
Clark spent 33 years at IBM as a computer programmer and systems analyst. He excelled in his profession. Like many Coloradoans, he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid catch and release fisherman, spending many hours on the boat with his sons and grandchildren. He also looked forward to pheasant hunting trips in the fall, usually with one or more of his Brittany Spaniels. He traveled often, going to Europe, Australia, Latin America and across the U.S., and frequently camped nearby in the mountains or at the lake with close friends.
Clark was fiercely competitive in all endeavors, whether it was coaching Little League, playing cards or starting a game of Wiffle ball in the yard. He loved sports, from horse-racing to hockey, but was a Nebraska Cornhuskers fan most of all. The Beavers household rarely missed a Huskers football game on television–win or lose. Clark also enjoyed homemade ice cream, a John Phillips Sousa march, and a lucky Craps table.
Clark especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether it be at their sporting events and concerts, on fishing or hunting trips and vacations, or simply while playing dominoes together. He proudly watched his family weather storms, conquer challenges and work to make the world a better place while maintaining an unwavering connection to the values he taught them.
Clark was fondly known by several family nicknames, but the one that best describes him is Superman. He will be missed for his sharp (sometimes ornery) sense of humor, his conviction, and his soft heart.
Clark is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons Rod (Crystal) and Ryan (Diana), his daughters, Kim Engard (Jeff Jonas), and Kathy Amen (Bill); grandchildren, Brendt and Brayden (Becca) Beavers; Ashley, Kyle and Bailey Beavers; Nic Engard; Katelyn Fobes (Corey); Megan and Will Amen; and one great-granddaughter, Lyla Fobes; and step-grandchildren Derek, Darren (Kinzy) and Hayden Troudt; and step-great-grandson Dutton Troudt. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Carla Brooke and Jamilee McGhie; and two brothers-in-law, Tom McGhie and Dan McGhie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dorothy Bernhardt; and his granddaughter, Chelsea Engard.
The family will hold a private memorial service on September 4, 2022. Contributions can be made to Trail Winds Hospice or the Parkinson Association of the Rockies in Clark’s name. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com for the Beavers Family.
